چکیده

–Expressions are obtained for the thermal conductivity of some ABO3 type displacive ferroelectrics in paraelectric phase, using Kubo formalism and double time thermal Green’s function technique. The total thermal conductivity obtained for these perovskites which is sum of two terms contributed by optical and acoustical phonons, is in agreement with the experimental results of Steigmeier. The variation of thermal conductivity with temperature and external electric field is discussed, for the case of SrTiO3, BaTiO3 and KTaO3 in presence of anharmonicity. Thermal conductivity decreases with increase of temperature in the cases of all these three perovskites. Also the total thermal conductivity which is the sum of two terms contributed by optical and acoustical phonons is seen to increase with the applied electric field, which is in agreement with the experimental results of Steigmeir. Around the Curie temperature, the thermal conductivity shows an anomalous behaviour and soft mode is held responsible for it. Keywords––Anharmonicity, ferroelectric crystals, paraelectric phase, perovskites, soft mode, thermal conductivity.

Electric Field Dependent Specific Heat of SrTiO 3 , BaTiO 3 and KTaO 3 Ferroelectric Perovskites

The field dependent specific heat of anharmonic ABO3 type displacive ferroelectrics (SrTiO3, BaTiO3 & KTaO3) is studied using double time Green’s function technique along with Silverman-Joseph modified Hamiltonian which includes anharmonicity up to the fourth order due to the interaction of the soft mode. The soft mode contributions to specific heat are described by appropriate Einstein terms. ...

Ferroelectric BaTiO3/SrTiO3 with optimized c-axis-oriented multilayered thin films were epitaxially fabricated on (001) MgO substrates. The microstructural studies indicate that the in-plane interface relationships between the films as well as the substrate are determined to be (001)SrTiO3//(001)BaTiO3//(001)MgO and [100]SrTiO3//[100]BaTiO3//[100]MgO. The microwave (5 to 18 GHz) dielectric meas...

Ferroelectric Dynamics in the Perovskite Relaxor PMN

We review results obtained from recent neutron scattering studies of the lead-oxide class of perovskite relaxors PMN and PZN. A ferroelectric soft mode has been identified in PMN at 1100 K that becomes overdamped near 620 K. This is the same temperature at which polar nanoregions (PNR) begin to form, denoted by Td , and suggests that a direct connection exists between the soft mode and the PNR....
